Broaching the subject

Do not forget the power of accessories, dear followers.

Girlin3184 has been attending numerous job interviews, and wants to be remembered – for the right reasons. Recently she came across a brilliant vintage brooch at the local op-shop, and decided this was the perfect standout piece. It draws attention and exudes style, without being ostentatious or inappropriate. It’s also grabbed the positive attention of every interviewer so far.
Fashion wise, The Job Interview can be a tricky situation, and you’d be surprised how many people get it wrong. Having worked in recruitment for a number of years, Girlin3184 has seen (and smelt) it all – cleavage, jeans, scuffed shoes, BO, overpowering perfume, mismatched suits, chipped nail polish…the list is endless. Surely it’s a no brainer?

Unless you’re applying for a pole dancing position, err on the side of caution and ‘suit it’ up. Wash and blow-dry your hair. Wear a neutral nail polish or none at all. Leave the red lipstick for Saturday night, and keep makeup fresh and natural.

The era of power dressing is over, but it is important to look good. Melbourne styling agency Fashion Factor couldn’t put it better: “even if you don’t say a word, your appearance will”. Although you are expected to talk during an interview, a recruiter will form their first impression within 2 seconds of seeing you. Sound scary? It's The Truth.
